MUS3 began their journey as a Muse tribute band Portsmouth audiences could see up close, launching their live laser and light show at Moon Shine in Southsea.

The Portsmouth-area three-piece tribute to Muse spent more than a year planning the sound, visuals, rehearsals, photography, website and live production needed to create a show that could capture the scale, energy and atmosphere of Muse on stage.

Original launch show: Thursday 16 February 2023
Venue: Moon Shine, Southsea
Location: Portsmouth, Hampshire

Muse tribute band Portsmouth launch show

All three band members have strong Portsmouth-area roots. Dan Lines performs lead vocals, guitar and keyboards, Ali Martin plays bass guitar and backing vocals, and Kyle Fenton performs drums and backing vocals.

Before launching MUS3, the musicians had already played together regularly in other projects for more than a decade. The idea for the band developed after they performed Uprising and Starlight at a function gig in late 2021 and realised they all shared the same passion for Muse’s music.

Fast forward and the three of us were performing at a typical function gig late 2021 and played Uprising and Starlight, two massive hits by Muse. The passion and energy we all individually brought to these songs was something else and it was only chatting afterwards when packing down we discovered we were all massive Muse fans.

A live laser and light show built around Muse

From the beginning, MUS3 set out to be more than a standard tribute act. The band wanted to build a live show around the power, detail and drama of Muse, combining musicianship with video, lighting and laser effects.

Muse songs demand precision and scale. The vocals need range and intensity, the bass has to carry weight, the drums need power and control, and the guitar, keyboard and electronic textures all need to work together to recreate the atmosphere of the original band.

Early audience reaction in Southsea

Before the official launch show, MUS3 tested the new set at The Loft in Southsea to gauge audience reaction and see how the songs connected live.

That was off the scale… absolute class musicianship and vocals, I absolutely loved it.

Audience comment via social media

That early response helped confirm the direction of the band: a high-energy tribute to Muse built around sound, power, musicianship and the kind of live impact that works for rock audiences.

Muse anthems from Showbiz to Will of the People

MUS3 recreate Muse’s stadium-sized sound as a live three-piece rock show. The set features songs from Muse’s debut album Showbiz through to Will of the People, including major live anthems such as Time Is Running Out, Starlight, Plug In Baby, Knights of Cydonia, Supermassive Black Hole, Madness, Hysteria and Uprising.

Those songs remain central to the MUS3 live show today, giving festivals, theatres and live music venues a modern rock tribute act with recognisable hits, fan favourites and serious crowd energy.

From Portsmouth launch show to festivals and venues

The original Moon Shine launch show was an important early step for MUS3. Since then, the band has continued to develop the show for larger stages, theatres, tribute festivals and live music venues across the UK and beyond.

For promoters and venue programmers looking for something different from the usual tribute line-up, MUS3 offer a powerful tribute to Muse with live musicianship, lights, lasers, video and the scale needed for an anthemic rock audience.
